i like the clean, simple, spherical look of pomanders. the work that goes into creating them is probably a lot more involved than i care to think, but i still wonder if it's something that would be an easy DIY project.
i added another photo of initials hanging on church doors. i love the stone and the arch that frames those doors.
DIY sequel: pomanders.

I was just passing through.. but you have such lovely pictures I just had to stay for a while...
ReplyDeleteAs for the flower balls- they are really easy to do.
Materials:
-Green Floral Ball
-Floral Tube (looks like a big straw)
-Ribbon
-Medium sized bucket of water
-30-35 medium sized blooms (the size of roses)
Step One: Soak the ball for a couple of hours in the water
Step Two:
Pierce the ball through the center with the straw and then clean the debris from the center, allowing a tunnel through the sphere
Step Three:
Cut four 1.5' strips of ribbon and thread them through the ball. Take the bottom of the ribons and wrap them up the ball and then knot them at the top (leaving enough ribbon hanging from the top to later tie as you wish
Step four:
Hang the ball from a ladder/rack/anything that is at eye level. Cut your stems about 1" from the bloom and begin sticking them in (I like to do this in the pattern of an X to maintain symmetry... don't forget that they should take the shape of a ball so some point up and others down).... If you cut one too short, use a toothpick through the stem and it should be just fine.
** Also... remember that not all flowers like the foam so ask your supplier to be sure... AND this is a day-of project as the flowers really don't like to sit overnight in the foam..
Hope this was helpful.
